Committees

Executive Committee, Finance Committee, and Nominating: These committees are standing committees of the board and are defined in the articles of incorporation.

Action, Education, Village Projects, Public Relations, Fund-raising, Education, and Membership

  • Action committee - This committee has is an issue-driven body that implements and strategies action on any number of issues that may arise. This group is able to respond well to time sensitive inquiries and issues. This group also monitors the various town committee meetings.
  • PR/Communications - This committee has been very effective communicating with the press about GPA news, handling special events logistics, postering, and covering media stories.  In order to do this more fully, a larger committee is necessary. The newsletter should be under this group, moved from membership.
  • Village Center Committee: This group was founded during the Town Center South Charrette last Spring. Its purpose is to take on certain projects chosen by the board from the charrette ideas.

    • Pedestrian enhancements and traffic calming
  • Fund raising - this new committee is trying to be systematic about fund-raising especially for the newly announced capitol campaign. The committee is pursuing opportunities to develop the asset base of the GPA and handle the funding needs of our numerous projects.

    • Grants from public and private sources
    • Individual bequests
    • Special project appeals-train station
    • Investments
  • Property Committee: a new committee developed to handle the several emerging GPA real estate projects
    • Railroad station project
    • Great Hill Road house
    • Sperry Cider Mill
  • Education This committee has one main project but could develop other opportunities for expansion:
    • Historic resource Inventory
    • Walking tours
    • Early Guilford Days and Fair Day Parade
  • Membership committee: responsible for recruiting new members and planning and implementing the annual membership appeal.
    • Membership mailings
    • Membership outreach
    • Membership events

GPA Commissions - These committees have narrowly defined missions, specific useful to a particular issue or project. These commissions are quasi independent and have their own operating guidelines and directors/Trustees.

  • Jones Trust: The revolving loan fund that gives loans o property owners and grants for historic preservation projects
  • Faulkner's Light Brigade: Largely independent of the GPA
